A Georgian-era pansy form ring, modeled in high karat gold, whose petals are set with faceted garnet and chrysoberyl gems. This little flower is highly-dimensional, thanks to the slight pitch of its petals, and the alternating colors of these petals add a loves me, loves me not suggestion to this traditional sweetheart motif. The ring's ornate split shoulders and reeded shank are shapely, unusual, and joined by a delicate shell-like medallion. Pansy is the "think of me" flower, in the Victorian language of flowers, because its common name comes from the French word for thought (pensée). This thoughtful old darling retains its original plaited lock of hair, and glazed locket compartment. Hair mementos were used not only in memorial jewelry, but also in sweetheart jewelry— this is a fine, all original example of that tradition.
